Colonel James Henry McClintock,70, was born to John & Sarah G. Brittingham McClintock. His brother was Charles E. McClintock. In June of 1879, McClintock arrived in Arizona from California. He graduated from the Normal School of Arizona at Tempe (ASU). At 22 years old, while residing in Tempe, he was made Justice of the Peace and at the same time was engaged in the publication of a paper and operated a farm. From 1898-1921 he served in the U.S. Army including service in the Spanish/American War. He was an American teacher, journalist, volunteer cavalry officer in Roosevelt's Rough Riders, civil servant, radio broadcaster, author and historian. He was the Adjutant General of the Arizona Territory. McClintock continued to live in Arizona until his poor health forced him to return to Los Angeles, California. McClintock and his wife, Dorothy G. Bacon McClintock, made donations to create the Arizona Room at the Phoenix Public Library (Burton Barr). Established in 1964, McClintock High School in Tempe bears his name. McClintock Hall dormitory at ASU is also named for him.
